In the framework of EFFINET project an AMR concentrator prototype (efficon) has been designed in collaboration with SignalGenerix and Gemalto M2M. SignalGenerix has worked in an optimized antenna design (internal and external) to ensure good coverage at any installation point. Gemalto has provided the communication module and the facilities to test the equipment performance. A first prototype has been industrialized by Aqualogy and it is now ready to be deployed on pilot site. New AMR device will be tested in Limassol (Cyprus) pilot. Efficon is an ultra-low power advanced device, with high performance on 2G/3G mobile network and high security features. It will be able to read the information provided by water meters from different manufacturers and send these data to the central database. Concentrator will deploy: configuring and communicating with meters, receiving the data from the meters, storing it if necessary, and using the communication module to transmit the information to the Information Service. The data will be transmitted to the IS via GPRS. There are a lot of types of protocols for remote reading meters, in this project we will focus in the Low Power Bus, a protocol very widespread in Spain (UNE 82326:2010) and implemented by different manufacturers of meters, such as Contazara, Elster,Itron.
AMR equipment will store not only the accumulated volume, but also information about max. flow, min. flow, leak detection, time histogram and flow histogram. Besides, the device will have two serials port available that can be used in future developments to add new protocols, i.e.: WMBus, LdE VHF protocol… Due to the installation sites of these devices and the difficulty to find where plug the device, it will work with batteries, but it also will be able to work with an external power source. To extend the batteries life the consumption of the device will be kept to a minimum, the device will be in sleep mode and it will only wake up when programmed to do the required operations.
